Mission Statement
The mission statement of the New England Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies reads as follows:
The New England Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies is an institution of international reputation providing psychoanalytic education and training for students to develop critical, analytical, and imaginative thinking and to make well-founded ethical decisions. It responds to the call for clinical research and teaching. The Institute prepares students to address the complex issues facing them in society and to discover meaning in their own lives. It provides education and training in the understanding of the theory and practice of psychoanalysis through classroom instruction, case conferences, and seminars. Provide s Self-understanding through individual and group training analysis; offers clinical opportunities for proficiency in the practice of modern psychoanalytic theory through supervised practice; Provides experience under supervision in a clinical facility; and provide s course work in sound moral and ethical standards of professional behavior, and follows standards established by the American Board of Accreditation in Psychoanalysis. It will encourages diversity in its student body and meets the needs of students by providing them with interdisciplinary and innovative professional courses. The Institute energetically seeks ways to interact with and serve the needs of the student body. The Institute nurtures and supports a faculty that is diverse, innovative, excellent in clinical teaching, psychoanalysis, active in research, and responsive to the needs of students and the
community. The Institute is a resource of the State of Maine serving private and public sectors.
